If Only Program grants wishes of seniors in need
The If Only Program grants a one-time wish for Forsyth County residents age 60 and over with limited financial resources who have a disability or life-threatening condition and an unmet need.
This gift fulfillment program is funded by a generous gift from Mr. O. Moser, a former Forsyth County resident. The program is managed by the Forsyth County Department of Social Services, which receives and processes applications for the program and works with local businesses to fulfill those requests.
To qualify, individuals must:
- Be at least 60 years of age
- Be a resident of Forsyth County and US citizen or legal immigrant
- Have a disabling and life-threatening condition
- Have a demonstrated need due to limited financial resources
- Have the physical and cognitive ability to participate in the requested activity
- Be fully aware of the request and able to identify an individual who is able to accompany them, if needed
- Submit a completed application packet. Applications can be found at bit.ly/IfOnlyForsyth and are also available by emailing ifonly@forsyth.cc.
Requests cannot involve cash, anything worth more than $2,000, automobile or RV rentals, purchase of property, cruises or travel outside the country or a surprise request for someone else. Requests can also not be for medical, dental or psychiatric care.
Requests can include an activity or the purchase of an item to fulfill a need that would otherwise go unmet or would enhance the quality of life for the recipient. Past gifts have included a portable keyboard, a DVD player with instructional DVDs and an electronic device to let an individual communicate with loved ones in another state. Gifts have also included the purchase of medical supplies and equipment ordered by a physician.
