More than 25 adoptions at Animal Shelter’s Labor Day Event

Forsyth County Animal Shelter opened up on a day that they are normally closed (and a holiday nonetheless) to a long line of over 100 people eager to adopt cats and dogs on Labor Day during a special event where adoption fees were waived for the holiday.

There were 25 animals adopted into great homes with three more pending. The shelter has been at maximum capacity with dogs and puppies who were found as strays. Animal Shelter Director Kirsten Briggs said that Assistant Director Scott Bird came up with the idea last week during a brainstorming session and she, the staff, and the volunteers quickly mobilized to organize the last-minute event.

“It was heartwarming to see all the volunteers willing to give up their day off to help us and amazing to see the long line of folks ready to come in and welcome a new pet into their family!” said Briggs. “We really needed this boost in adoptions right now and I hope the adoptions continue as we have many still waiting for their forever home.”
