An Author Talk with Debbie Barr, a health educator and writer, will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 10:30 a.m. Barr is the author of two books about Alzheimer’s disease. She will discuss what Alzheimer’s and dementia are, how to communicate love to a person with dementia, and how dementia caregivers can avoid burnout. She co-authored the book “Keeping Love Alive as Memories Fade: The 5 Love Languages and the Alzheimer's Journey” with Gary D. Chapman and Edward G. Shaw.
Debbie Barr is the author/co-author of five books. Her book “Grace for the Unexpected Journey: A 60-Day Devotional for Alzheimer's and Other Dementia Caregivers,” won the 2018 Digital Book World award for “Best Inspirational Book.” “Keeping Love Alive as Memories Fade: The 5 Love Languages and the Alzheimer's Journey” was published in 2016 .
Barr has a bachelor's degree in journalism from Penn State and a master's degree in health education from East Carolina University. A master certified health education specialist, she volunteers as a community educator for the Western Carolinas chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. She is employed by Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center as a health educator for a research study.
