N.C. Cooperative Extension in Forsyth County held a graduation ceremony for members of the 2017 Extension Master GardenerSM Volunteer (EMGV) training class. Eighteen students completed the course this year. The students attended 40 hours of class, covering a host of gardening topics. In addition, EMGVs were trained to assist with answering client phone calls about gardening and teaching the public at events and classes. By the end of the class, students had already completed a combined 225 volunteer hours with Cooperative Extension.
In 2018, the EMGV graduates will complete a volunteer internship, consisting of 40 volunteer hours for each graduate. EMGVs are integral to the success of Cooperative Extension’s consumer horticulture program. The volunteers assist with maintenance of demonstration gardens, planning and teaching horticulture classes, answering gardening questions from individuals, and assisting Extension Agents with other tasks.
