Over the summer of 2014, the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce sent out a call to its membership and beyond for nominations to find outstanding leaders among young professionals under 40 in the community.
Ms. Patrice Y. Toney, a Forsyth County employee, was among the top 20 selected as a Winston Under 40 (Winston < 40) Leadership Award Winner. She was selected for the inaugural class from among 47 applicants. According to the Chamber the top 20 recipients, "are actively influencing the growth, prosperity and quality of life in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County". The awards were given at the Winston <40 Gala held at the Benton Convention Center on October 11, 2014.
Patrice has been employed with Forsyth County since 1999 when she joined the Public Library System as part of the First Line division. In 2005 she was promoted to Community Services Consultant at the Public Health Department and in 2007 promoted to the HIV/STI Prevention Supervisor. In 2011, Patrice joined the Budget & Management Office as a Budget & Management Analyst where she works with departments such as Parks and Recreation, the Library System, Public Health and Environmental Assistance and Protection.
Patrice's professional pursuits and volunteer undertakings all feed into her passion to give back to the community and in helping others. She has freely given her time, talent, and efforts to agencies such as the Experiment in Self Reliance, Hands-On of Northwest North Carolina, the Winston-Salem Urban League, and her church, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. She has served and continues to serve on numerous Boards and Committees in the community.
Her efforts and talents are especially visible through her affiliation with the NC Black Repertory Company and the National Black Theater Festival which stretches back 15 years or more. Patrice is the daughter of William and Bernice Toney of Winston-Salem.
