All new construction and improvements made to real estate, non-household personal property, watercraft, manufactured homes and unregistered motor vehicles owned as of January 1, 2014 must be listed with the County Assessor. The Listing period began on January 2, 2014 and has been extended through February 14, 2014.
All listings, electronic and those submitted by mail, must be received in the Assessor's Office prior to the end of the listing period. Assistance is available at the Forsyth County Government Center, 201 N. Chestnut Street, Winston-Salem on Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The penalty for failure to list is 10% of the tax levied.
Registered motor vehicles (those with active North Carolina license plates/registrations) DO NOT have to be listed.
The annual listing of property is required regardless of the status of valuation appeals. Appeals should not delay or prohibit the listing of property during the listing period.
SPECIAL NOTICE: Property owners aged 65 or older or permanently disabled may qualify for tax relief if income from all sources during 2013 is less than $28,600, OR property owners may qualify for a deferment with income less than $42,900. Disabled veterans may qualify for an exclusion of the first $45,000 of appraised value on a permanent residence. New applicants should contact the Assessor’s office for an application.
